Wooden Model Boat
May, 2021
A housing wooden model boat was composed of a teakwood boat hull and a matted bamboo roof. It is an exact model of an Assam boat used by the natives of Assam for conveying tea chests and stores between the Tea Gardens and various steamer stations on the Brahmaputra, dictating the waterway transportation business during the 19th-20th centuries in Southeast Asia.

Treatment Goal
As the boat was come in unclean condition and with some broken components, the main treatments would be cleaning and adhesion.
The boat was partly conserved before. Some fragments was securely sticked with fish glue.
Cleaning
-
Brushing and vacuum suction were firstly used to pick up and remove loose, surface dirt particles.
-
Then, some hard-to-reach areas were cleaned by swabbing with deionised water.
-
The varnished surface was carefully cleaned so as to avoid any removal

Adhesion
-
Adhere back the tiny broken parts (fence and oar).
-
As the broken surfaces were small, a stronger strength adhesive, fish glue, was applied. Also, fish glue was previously used to adhere other fragments. We would use a consistent treament and adhesive.
-
Broken parts are nicely jointed back after treatment.
Finished!
-
Boat is cleaned
-
broken part were repaired
